Remember and celebrate!
September 2024 marks 80 years since World War II ended in Eindhoven region
80 years of freedom!
In September 2024, we will celebrate a special anniversary! 80 years ago, World War II ended and Eindhoven region was liberated by the US 101st Airborne Division and the Second British Army. On 17 September 1944, the US 101st Airborne Division landed near Son, while the British Second Army moved from Belgium via Valkenswaard towards Eindhoven. Eindhoven was one of the first cities liberated by Allied troops. It took until 5 May 1945 before the whole of the Netherlands was liberated.
The Eindhoven region annually celebrates its liberation on 17 and 18 September, this year in extra grand style! Commemorative activities are organised all over the region to mark the liberation and the value of freedom. From a ‘40-’45 pop-up museum in Valkenswaard, a liberation parade plus torchlight procession in Eindhoven to a Freedom Run in Geldrop and a military market at Bevrijdende Vleugels in Best. Will you celebrate 80 years of freedom with us?
